5 Epic Macations for July

July is jam-packed with great possibilities for Bromentous mancations including racing, music, food & drink, and cultural events.  Although there are a couple mainstays in the lineup, perhaps some of the others will be inspiration to try something new.  Whether you want to get the passport out or not, raise the blood pressure or take it down a notch, there is something for you.  Here are 5 Epic Man Trips for July, or check out our Trip Planner for more mancation ideas.

1.  Run with Bulls

The Festival San Fermin in Pamplona, Spain is a classic man trip and bucket list item for most adventurous guys.  It has owned the top spot in July trips for centuries, but really turned on due to Hemingway’s affection for the event.  Things kick of on July 6 with The Chupinazo, where everyone heads to City Hall square for the launching of the first rocket signaling the beginning of the festival.  From July 7-14, The Encierro will occur starting at 8am each morning.  You will still be awake, and inebriated, from the night before, so there is no need to set the alarm.  Here is a full schedule of the festivities.

It might be useful to do some training with the bros you intend to travel with.  A good regimen would include slamming beers in the garage then taking wind-sprints down the driveway with a Rottweiler chasing you.  Good Luck!

2.  Tour de France

Even with all of the incessant controversy surrounding riders and teams due to substance abuse, the Tour is still one of the most anticipated events of the year, and a top mancation pick for July.  To catch the peloton in multiple stages you are going to need to be mobile, so travel light and be ready to camp out roadside if needed.  The chance to see even one stage of the Tour is a dream for many, so make sure your bro catches that pic of you running along side your favorite rider in your underwear.  This year there is the added insanity of having the Euro Cup going on.  If you are there from the beginning you’ll be there just in time to catch the final in some pub with what is sure to be a fired up crowd (even without France playing).  Choose your shirt colors wisely.

3.  Calgary Stampede

While the Calgary Stampede is not that well known outside of Western Canada, rodeo aficionados, and oil & gas workers that head out to Calgary for business, it is a guaranteed epic mancation.  The city goes completely nuts, with packed bars and serious partying going all night.  You’ve been enjoying the great company of these neighbors to the North everywhere you have traveled – great attitudes, friendly smiling ladies, and they’re always up for a beer.  Now it is time to go party on their turf.  It also happens to be one of the biggest and oldest rodeos in the world, so you are sure to catch some performing amazing action in the ring.  This year they celebrate their Centennial, so the festivities are sure to be amped up just a bit more than usual.

4.  Tough Mudder Scotland

Like running with the bulls, this trip is for those men who prefer to treat their hangover with a dose of adrenaline and dirt.  The Tough Mudder series has been earning rave reviews since kicking off their first event in 2009, and the Scotland event will be held the weekend of July 14-15 in Thornhill, Dumfriesshire, Scotland at the Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate (about 30 mins outside of Edinburg).  Edinburg is one of the coolest cities in Europe to visit, so get your team together, your passports ready, and live your Braveheart dreams and Scotch tasting fantasies.

5.  Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic

While we’ve covered action, adrenaline, and international adventure, sometimes the best mancations are just hanging out with the guys, drinking beer, and listening to both kinds of music – country AND western.  If this is more your speed, than head to Billy Bob’s at the Forth Worth Stockyards for the annual Willie Nelson 4th of July Picnic.  Although this event has outgrown his ability to host it in his actual front yard in Luckenbach, it is still Willie and his guitar with a solid lineup throughout the day.  The music kicks off at noon with Willie set to hit the stage around 11pm, so bring your koozie, pull on your best Tony Lamas, and enjoy the day.

Bromentous.com is dedicated to highlighting the best man trips around the world.  Suggestions for epic events that should be added to our calendar are welcome.  Since we can’t make it to every event, we are honored to interview or post articles from those travelers with first-hand accounts.  Cheers…
