Giro D’Italia: Great Italian Mancation

Giro d’Italia Stage 3 from DancingOnThenPedals.net

Cycling season is in full effect as we speed toward the Tour de France.  While I’m disappointed that I don’t get Giro coverage at home, the fact of the matter is that I don’t really have the attention to watch both this and the Tour so I’ll just be content knowing that it is coming up.

I just wrote about the Tour of California being completed, and although it’s a great local event for the West Coasters, it really doesn’t pack the energy of the great European events.  Bottom line, if you aren’t able to travel in July or just feel like going to Italy instead of France the Giro would be a truly awesome man trip.

With plenty of time left to go, there has been some controversy in this years Giro.  Mark Cavendish was basically taken out at the end of Stage 3.  His team decided to take him out of the race so he can recover for the tour.  We’ll just have to wait and see how that affects his performance.

Luckily these cyclists have the best doctors on the planet.

The video of the crash is below, and it’s a good one.   All packed in at the close of a sprint stage, there’s just nowhere for the riders behind him to go.
